This treadle sewing machine is the 1872 model; where the user would run the machine by placing either one or both feet on the treadle and pumping. The treadle on this machine features the surname of Elias Howe Jr., the inventor of the modern lockstitch sewing machine. The machine is made of mahogany, and the sewing bed is inlaid with mother-of-pearl leaves. This machine can be viewed inside the master bedroom.
