Toy Sewing Machine

Date: 1901

 A kid-sized version of a machine used to sew fabric together with thread. This toy sewing machine is made of iron and is painted black with gold trim. The name on the front of the machine is “Smith and Egge Automatic 1901.” This toy sewing machine is featured in Creating Homes: Women’s Domestic Labor of the 19th and 20th century, an exhibit that highlights different domestic objects in America and how domestic ideology affected various groups of women and girls.
