This silver-plated hand-operated device was designed to pick up crumbs and small debris from flat surfaces. This silent butler is displayed in the cleaning section of Creating Homes: Women’s Domestic Labor of the 19th and 20th century, an exhibit that explores domestic ideology and domestic objects in America and how different groups of women and girls were impacted.
