Sewing Box

Sewing boxes are containers used to hold sewing supplies like thread, needles, and buttons. This sewing box is made of walnut and pine. The shelves slide out with metal spindles for spools and thimbles. This sewing box is displayed in Creating Homes: Women’s Domestic Labor of the 19th and 20th century, an exhibit that highlights various domestic objects in America and how domestic ideology affected various groups of women and girls.
