Rancho Los Cerritos Introduces New Identity Inspired by Place, History, and The Future
Rancho Los Cerritos has officially unveiled a new brand identity and logo designed to expand awareness, strengthen community engagement, and position the historic site for continued growth across Long Beach, Los Angeles, and Orange Counties.
Drawing from the Rancho’s history, gardens, adobe architecture, and sense of place, the new logo uses modern typography and layered design elements to communicate preservation, education, and community while elevating the Rancho’s visual identity through a contemporary, museum-quality design.
Inspired by Rancho Los Cerritos’ origins as a 27,000-acre Mexican land grant once stretching across the Southern California landscape known as Los Cerritos, or “Little Hills,” the new visual identity reflects the Rancho’s deep connection to place, history, and the communities that continue to shape the region today. The refreshed identity integrates the “RLC” moniker directly into the logo system to strengthen recognition, create a distinctive modern presence, and reinforce the shorthand commonly used to refer to Rancho Los Cerritos as part of the bold new design.
“The map concept reflects the interconnectedness of the Rancho’s history, land, people, and surrounding communities,” said Alison Bruesehoff, Executive Director of Rancho Los Cerritos. “The design and tagline help create a welcoming and inclusive identity that encourages discovery, curiosity, connection, and belonging for all who visit today.”
The rebrand was developed to help address one of the organization’s primary goals: increasing awareness among residents and visitors who may not yet know the Rancho or fully understand its regional significance. The rich color palette reflects the natural and architectural elements of the Rancho, including the gardens, adobe tones, and the enduring presence of water — recognizing both the site’s beauty and the important role water has played throughout the Rancho’s history and evolution.
“This new brand identity represents an exciting next chapter for Rancho Los Cerritos,” said John Fielder, Board Chair of Rancho Los Cerritos. “The Board is proud to introduce a more visible, modern, and memorable identity that honors the Rancho’s history while helping us expand our reach and deepen engagement throughout Long Beach and the broader Southern California region.”
The branding initiative was developed in partnership with Long Beach-based branding and marketing agency, Creative Productions. The agency’s understanding of Long Beach, the Rancho, and the surrounding community helped guide a collaborative process rooted in place, history, and future opportunity.
“The new identity balances heritage with a modern look and feel while creating a cohesive brand platform to support future marketing, exhibitions, educational programming, community outreach, fundraising, and advocacy efforts,” commented Bruesehoff.
Over the coming months, Rancho Los Cerritos will roll out the new identity across digital platforms, marketing materials, signage, advertising, and community outreach as part of a broader effort to increase visibility and share the many stories of the Rancho that connect the community, welcome new visitors, and inspire deeper engagement through membership opportunities, special programming, exhibitions, and experiences designed to offer something for everyone. Reflecting the spirit of the new tagline, “Find your place here,” the Rancho continues its commitment to being a welcoming cultural destination where all are encouraged to explore, learn, connect, and belong.
