Bird Walk

October 10, 2019 @ 8:00 am - 9:30 am

Orange Crowned Warbler (stock image)

Stroll through the grounds of the historic Rancho and watch both resident birds and seasonal migrants. Participants will also listen to calls and songs and potentially observe other specific seasonal behaviors.

October Update
Migration season is upon us, which means we are seeing more and more Orange Crowned Warblers (pictured). A social bird that joins with other species such as Bush Tits to forage for bugs and often adds a cheerful “chip, chip” to the Bush Tit’s busy commentary, the Orange Crowned Warbler’s back is a lovely olive-green and its underside can be an eye-catching bright yellow. Rarely does one get to see the bird’s orange crown, which is only visible when the bird raises his head feathers in excitement. More warblers should be on their way to RLC soon, expanding our avian population temporarily as they migrate south.

Meet in the lower parking lot at 8 a.m. sharp. Wear comfortable closed toed shoes and bring a hat and binoculars, if you have them. We also have a limited number of binoculars to lend, thanks to the generosity of Vortex Optics.

Free and open to all. Rain cancels.
