Foodways of the West: Southern California’s Land Use – The Past, Present, and Future
Tongva descendant Craig Torres will present a lecture on the cultural history of the Tongva, beginning with Spanish colonization and its effects on indigenous life and landscape, through today with the continued degradation of the natural environment. In addition to the drastic changes of the natural environment, the Tongva and all Californians are affected by the effects of climate change. Torres will also discuss ways the Tongva are using their ancient ancestral cultural traditions to help heal their own communities and the land – and what we can do to honor, respect, and care for Mother Earth.
